Financial Aid Night will take place on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 5:30-7 p.m. in the City Honors’ Large Group Instruction Room (LGI).  The School Counselors are pleased to have Mr. Daniel Tramuta from the Financial Aid Office at Fredonia State College as our guest speaker. All juniors and seniors, and their parents are encouraged to attend.

Some things to keep in mind relative to financial aid:

Families can begin applying for financial aid on October 1- https://fafsa.ed.gov/

In addition, families will now use tax data from two years prior to complete the FAFSA. For the 2018-19 FAFSA, students will use their families’ 2016 income and tax information.

How will this benefit your high school seniors?

Because the FAFSA is available earlier, students and their families can have more time to explore and understand their financial aid options before selecting a college.

Also, because the FAFSA will ask for older income and tax information, families will already have filed their taxes and won’t need to estimate their tax information or go back into the FAFSA later to update it. In addition, more families will be able to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to automatically import their tax information into their FAFSA.

We encourage you and your senior students to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1.

Online applications must be submitted by midnight Central Time, June 30, 2019.

Any corrections or updates must be submitted by midnight Central Time, September 14, 2019.

Students and parents/guardians can register for FAFSA completion assistance by going to HESC’s website dedicated to encouraging completion of the FAFSA – StarttHereGetThere.org<https://www.startheregetthere.org/>.

* Sign up for a hands-on FAFSA workshop on the statewide calendar of FAFSA completion events.
* Chat online or speak with a HESC representative weekdays between 9am-4pm at 800-808-1790.

Your help is needed at one more attempt to finish up closing up Pelion Community Garden for the season.

Thursday, November 16, 2017

We will be closing the growing beds and performing other tasks related to shutting down the garden for the season: clearing annuals, cutting back perennials, pruning shrubs, weeding, collecting seeds.

Things to bring (if you are able):

  • bagged pine needles or leaves (not so much from streets lined with ash trees because their seeds are a nuisance in the spring)
  • pruning sheers
  • loppers
  • short handled pitch forks
  • pointed shovels
