This will be the second meeting of the new Parent Garden Committee which has been set up to help plan and manage the numerous garden projects, events, and fundraising efforts that we now undertake annually as part of garden programming. Many people had conflicts and couldn’t make it to the first meeting in January so we hope to see more of you at this February meeting! The meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 26, at 6:30 PM at the home of lead parent volunteer, Molly Hutton, 81 Highland Ave., Buffalo 14222 (refreshments provided!).

We are excited about putting together a committed group of parents who believe in outdoor education, organic food production, and environmental stewardship. Please join us on February 26.

RSVPs are helpful but not necessary. All are welcome—please bring a friend!

Are you finding it hard to keep up with the daily risks our youth face? Do you ever feel “out of the loop” with what’s going on in the life of your child? Do you not know how to approach conversation about the dangers of alcohol and substance abuse with your child? We recognize the struggle and want to help.

Please join the Erie County Council for Prevention of Alcohol and Substance Abuse (ECCPASA) for a Parent Forum discussion to help parents become more informed and educated on the risks children face daily.

The sessions will take place at CHS on:

Wednesday, September 26, 2018 6pm-8pm (for High school Parents)

Wednesday, October 3, 2018 6pm-8pm (for Middle school Parents).

Any parent can attend either session. The high school program will outline current trends and warning signs, and the middle school program will focus more on prevention for the younger student.

We would encourage every parent to attend these sessions, as they will be informative, relevant, and necessary as your child navigates middle and high school. No school or students are immune to these dangers.

Our annual Back-to-School packet is in the mail and headed to your house! In the meantime, you can view all of the documents enclosed in this mailing at the Family Resources section of cityhonors.org. Carefully read this information as it will update you on all the latest developments at CHS and helps to ensure our students get off to a smooth start for the school year!

Please note that some of the packets mailed home are missing instructions on how to make use of the annual “family census form”. This is an important activity for each family at the start of each school year to be sure our staff has the best possible contact information for you. The instruction document for the census is, however, included in the online packet and hardcopies will be sent home with students on September 6.

*Tomorrow*, Friday, February 9th, City Honors students are asking the school community to donate $1.00 and dress in their favorite Buffalo Sports team attire. All proceeds will be donated to 2017 graduate Amber Conti and her family whom recently lost their home and family member to a tragic fire. We are encouraging students to dress in Buffalo-themed baseball caps, hoodies, tees, jerseys to help support this family in need. Student representatives will visit homerooms to collect donations for those wearing Buffalo sports gear.

Our fall/winter Box Tops for Education homeroom contest ends on February 16.  Students and fans will have turned in envelopes filled with Box Tops and we need to “process” them ALL before the deadline; otherwise, we miss out.

We need helpers to clip and sort several hundred Box Tops!
