Saturday testing dates for CHS and Olmsted MS/HS admissions were posted several weeks ago by BPS. If you know any family in our city who has the potential to succeed in our program, please share this flyer with them: Families with a child from non-BPS schools should be sure to read the requirements for proof of residency closely. Building-based testing is available once again to all current BPS students currently in grades 4,6, and 8. Student ranking of their school preferences will no longer prevent them from a seat at these schools. If they earn a seat, they will be offered the seat. Please encourage any child that has the potential to succeed at CHS to participate in the assessment!

The PSAT will be held this year for all students at CHS on the morning of October 11th. The PSAT is an important opportunity for families to identify their child’s strengths and areas for reinforcement prior to taking the actual SAT. There is no penalty for doing poorly on this assessment, but a strong performance during grade 11 can qualify students for the National Merit Scholarship competition and/or bring attention from college admission and scholarship opportunities.

City Honors is offering a PSAT Workshop to help prepare students for the test on October 11th, 2017. The class will be taught by Brian Eldridge, a leading SAT/ACT tutor and founder of Courier College Prep. To learn more about Brian, visit his website @

In addition to comprehensive content review for every section of the PSAT, there will be a strong emphasis on:
-Mental Readiness and Reliable Strategies
-Pacing and Time-Management Techniques
-How to Establish Confident, Flexible Thinking

The workshop will be held at CHS in the LGI Room on Tuesday, October 3rd from 3:00pm-4:30pm

REGISTRATION: Students must register online at to reserve their spot in the class. COST for Workshop and Classroom & Practice Materials – $10.00. Payment may be brought to the class, checks made payable to Courier College Prep.

DEADLINE for registration is Friday, September 29th. The Workshop is open to both sophomores and juniors

The 2017 Back-to-School Mailing is on its way to you.  But there’s no need to wait. Everything you need to know about the start of school at City Honors can be found right here!

In October of 2016, the Buffalo Public Schools and the Buffalo Teacher Federation settled a new three-year
contract. As a part of this agreement, twenty-five minutes were added to the students’ school day at each
building. We received final confirmation this week regarding the impact of these changes to City Honors (if you
have students at other Buffalo Schools as well, you should expect a unique letter from them).

The National College Fair will be held at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center on March 15th and 16th. The National College Fair is a free and open event. National College Fairs allow students to interact one on one with college admission representatives from a wide range of postsecondary institutions. This event continues to attract over 200 colleges and universities from across the country, Canada, and even a few foreign universities. The event is being offered during the day and evening hours.
Our Guidance Department will be taking a busload of grade 11 students to the National College Fair on March 15th from 9:00am-11:30am. Students can obtain permission slip in the guidance office. Seats will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis. Please encourage your grade 11 student into the guidance office as soon as possible- this trip usually books up fast!
The evening hours of the National College Fair allow parents and students to take advantage not only of the fair, but of the numerous informational workshops offered at that session. Please visit for more information on times and sessions being offered.

All students were sent home with a copy of the 2016-17 CHS Family Directory yesterday afternoon. The City Honors/Fosdick-Masten Park Foundation provides this directory as a way for our families to connect and build community. The front of the directory also provides important information about our parent organizations and leadership contact information.

Every directory includes a remittance envelope for the 2016-17 CHS/FMP Annual Fund. If you have not made your contribution to the annual fund yet, please do so using this remittance envelope or make a quick and easy online donation here: This link also provides more information about how these funds are put to work for our students. The Annual Fund provides crucial funding for support programs, enrichment, athletics and assistance to students in need. Our school would not be the same without generous contributions from our families each year. No gift is too small (or too large)!

This CHS Family Directory is provided by the City Honors/Fosdick-Masten Park Foundation exclusively to the parents, students, and faculty of City Honors School for personal, non-commercial, non-political use. We kindly ask that all respect this expectation of our families. The information contained in the directory is collected by the school from parents/guardians, who are given the opportunity to opt out at the start of each school year.
