Thank you for supporting the yearbook. Just a quick reminder, the last day to order a full City Honors School yearbook is SaturdayFebruary 10th. Very few “extra” copies are supplied to us as overruns. Ordering now is the only way to guarantee a yearbook in May.

Yearbooks may be purchased at: http://www.yearbookordercenter.com

Our yearbook code: 8772.

The yearbook could use your help!

You can now participate in the building of the yearbook. Spring and summer and events are always difficult for us to cover. We would appreciate your help by snapping a few pictures of any event your student is involved in and submitting them directly to the yearbook for consideration. Team sports are especially appreciated.

1. Take a great photo.

2. Visit http://www.hjeshare.com

3. Enter the school code: cityhonors  (one word all lowercase)

4. Fill out the information and upload.

Regards,

The Yearbook Staff

Saturday testing dates for CHS and Olmsted MS/HS admissions were posted several weeks ago by BPS. If you know any family in our city who has the potential to succeed in our program, please share this flyer with them: http://www.buffaloschools.org/files/122064/testing%20dates.pdf. Families with a child from non-BPS schools should be sure to read the requirements for proof of residency closely. Building-based testing is available once again to all current BPS students currently in grades 4,6, and 8. Student ranking of their school preferences will no longer prevent them from a seat at these schools. If they earn a seat, they will be offered the seat. Please encourage any child that has the potential to succeed at CHS to participate in the assessment!

The PSAT will be held this year for all students at CHS on the morning of October 11th. The PSAT is an important opportunity for families to identify their child’s strengths and areas for reinforcement prior to taking the actual SAT. There is no penalty for doing poorly on this assessment, but a strong performance during grade 11 can qualify students for the National Merit Scholarship competition and/or bring attention from college admission and scholarship opportunities.

City Honors is offering a PSAT Workshop to help prepare students for the test on October 11th, 2017. The class will be taught by Brian Eldridge, a leading SAT/ACT tutor and founder of Courier College Prep. To learn more about Brian, visit his website @ http://www.couriercollegeprep.com

In addition to comprehensive content review for every section of the PSAT, there will be a strong emphasis on:
-Mental Readiness and Reliable Strategies
-Pacing and Time-Management Techniques
-How to Establish Confident, Flexible Thinking

The workshop will be held at CHS in the LGI Room on Tuesday, October 3rd from 3:00pm-4:30pm

REGISTRATION: Students must register online at http://www.couriercollegeprep.com/workshops to reserve their spot in the class. COST for Workshop and Classroom & Practice Materials – $10.00. Payment may be brought to the class, checks made payable to Courier College Prep.

DEADLINE for registration is Friday, September 29th. The Workshop is open to both sophomores and juniors

The 2017 Back-to-School Mailing is on its way to you.  But there’s no need to wait. Everything you need to know about the start of school at City Honors can be found right here!

In October of 2016, the Buffalo Public Schools and the Buffalo Teacher Federation settled a new three-year
contract. As a part of this agreement, twenty-five minutes were added to the students’ school day at each
building. We received final confirmation this week regarding the impact of these changes to City Honors (if you
have students at other Buffalo Schools as well, you should expect a unique letter from them).

The Spring 2017 IB and AP exams will take place April 28 through May 19.  Students are to report to the school auditorium 15 minutes before listed exam time.
